I spent the week of June 9, 2008 attending a Laserfiche conference in Long Beach, California learning about the latest product release, Laserfiche v8.
I have to say, it is an impressive product. I will cover the new feature set in another blog, but what I wanted to talk about this time is Laserfiche as an organization.
One of the things that struck me as impressive about Laserfiche is their approach to the market. While it is true that the software is very open and can be customized to any type of business, Laserfiche has invested a lot of time and money focusing on several vertical markets. We met with the Directors of the various vertical markets and I was very impressed with their knowledge of their specific areas.
Before I forget, the areas that Laserfiche markets to are State and Local Government, Financial Institutions, and Healthcare. There are additional products designed specifically for these organizations as well. For example, a common enough task in many City Offices is to create agendas for various council meetings. This can be a time consuming process require approvals, edits, and last minute additions. To address this, Laserfiche drew upon their expertise gained by having installed in thousands of cities and counties, and developed Agenda Manager, a plug in module that is designed to:
· Ease the agenda compilation process with automatic notifications to the contributors.
· Speed approvals with automated document routing.
· Reduce cost and relieve the burden of paper
· Improve public service with instant Web availability for citizens and media
· Reduce the time required to prepare and distribute minutes.
This is just one example of Laserfiche’s focus and understanding of the businesses we work with. By the end of the week, I was more convinced than ever that if you are looking for Electronic Document Management, and you work in one of these fields, Laserfiche is a great option to consider.
